Pet Peeves

  • "alot" instead of "a lot". It´s two words. I am very surprised at how many people get this wrong.
  • Cashiers who put loose change on top of bills in your hand when they give you change. The coins slide around.
  • People that interrupt.
  • "Too/to" and "they´re/their/there". I learned the differences in grade three. It´s not that hard. It makes you look uneducated when you get it wrong.
  • Grammatical/spelling mistakes on professionally made signs. Come on! You mean to tell me that you couldn´t take an extra 2 minutes to make it perfect? ... and ... I cannot believe that someone at some time hasn´t brought it to your attention. It looks very unprofessional.
  • Arrogant/cocky people.
  • People that answer the question "How´s it going?" with "Oh, it´s going!". If you didn´t like my question, you could have said so - no need to be sarcastic.
  • "Your/you´re" - this is another very common grammatical error that everyone should have mastered in grade 3. Eg. "Your not a good person" - should be "You´re ...".
  • People that don´t return phone calls. This is my all time (or is it all-time? hmmm, maybe this is someone else´s peeve) biggest pet peeve!
  • People who fall asleep at a traffic light during an Advance Green and suddenly wake up in time to be the only one that can advance.
  • Packaging that´s way too difficult to open. Have you ever bought a Sony product? I really don´t know how they expect you to open their packaging.
  • Magazines that won´t stay open because of the advertisement cards or the binding.
  • People that drive too slow in the passing lane and they won´t move over.
  • Bad drivers.
  • People that won´t let someone into their lane while driving. They purposely tailgate the person in front of them so you can´t get in.
  • Unfriendly cashiers that barely talk or look at you. They say a standard (forced) "Thank You" (you know they don´t mean it) without looking at you and are on to the next person before they are even finished with you.
  • Call Waiting. I think it´s very rude. It´s like saying, "I´ll talk to you until I get a better call" or "I can´t talk to you right now, I´ve got a better call."
  • Public washrooms that have very thin toilet paper on a large roll that is very stiff. You carefully pull down on it and you still only get one square.
  • Guys that pee on the toilet seat in public washrooms. Why would someone do that??? When women complain that guys leave the seat up, they don´t mean that you should leave it down and pee all over it!!!! Why should the next person have to clean up someone else´s urine?
  • Rubber-neckers. Why slow down everyone behind you just so you can look at a twisted pile of steel?
  • Spammers. Arrggh! These pests are more annoying than flies that land on your face when you are sleeping.
  • Tim Horton´s coffee lids. For my thousands of American visitors, Tim Horton´s is a coffee shop. The lids never work properly. There is a little tab that is supposed to flip up so you can drink from a small opening; it almost never stays up. Also, the coffee frequently drips out of the lid while your are drinking. We can put a man on the moon ...
  • People that store things on my scooter or walker. I use these mobility aids to get around, and when someone puts a coat, purse, or something else on it, they may as well tie my legs together with a rope - it has the same effect since it renders me almost immobile.
  • People that don't say anything when you say 'hi' to them.
