Camels and Bananas

Using a white board to illustrate, Fraser presents his mathematical question. On the board are a camel, a pile of bananas and a straight line representing the width of a desert. On one side of the desert is the pile of bananas, 3000 in total. The desert is 1000km wide, and the camel can only carry 1000 bananas maximum at a time. Also, for every km the camel travels, it has to eat one banana. Fraser wants to know how many bananas the camel can carry across the desert.

Jay points out that if the camel took one trip with 1000 bananas, it would end up on the other side of the desert with no bananas and no fuel to return to the pile of remaining bananas.
